Statement on Connecticut State Budget Crisis

“CT Nonprofits and our 525 member organizations serve as the foundation of Connecticut’s nonprofit human services system. In every community across Connecticut, our nonprofit providers play the vital role in addressing the critical health and human services needs that face so many Connecticut residents.   While we recognize the fiscal challenges that face our state, we implore our elected officials to put aside their differences and come together to preserve the essential health and human services that our citizens need and deserve.

As demand for vital services grow, Connecticut’s nonprofit providers continue to see dramatic increases in the costs associated with maintaining existing services. Chronic underfunding, along with budget cuts and rescissions have destabilized many of Connecticut’s nonprofit human service organizations. Additional cuts to Connecticut’s safety net would have devastating consequences.

With the new fiscal year less then a month away we are asking our state’s leaders to seek common ground and provide the vital and necessary funding so that Connecticut’s nonprofit providers can ensure that adequate services will be in place for the state’s most vulnerable residents.”
