HIPAA Passport CD Toolkit
HIPAA Resources for CAN
Members
CAN has arranged for special member pricing on
HIPAA resources developed by Wiggin & Dana LLP in collaboration with Simione
Consultants, LLC. CAN has reviewed and recommends two HIPAA Passporttm
resources, both CD-based as described below, which can provide the complete
framework for a nonprofit provider’s HIPAA compliance efforts.

Wiggin & Dana LLP, a
full-service law firm with expertise in health care law and information
technology (IT) law, has developed HIPAA resources intended for small- to
medium-size nonprofit organizations. To create these resources, the firm
collaborated with Simione Consultants, LLC, a consulting group with
expertise in health care operations and IT. This collaboration resulted in
the creation of two sets of materials on CD-rom for use in implementing
HIPAA: HIPAAPassporttm
and HIPAAPassporttm
Policies and Forms Manual for HIPAA Privacy Standards (CT Edition).
The HIPAAPassporttm
materials not only address HIPAA’s legal requirements but also are sensitive
to operational and IT issues in the small- to medium-size nonprofit
organization. Endorsed by CAN, these materials are useful and
cost-effective for nonprofit providers who need to obtain HIPAA support and
model documents in preparation for the April 14, 2003 privacy compliance
deadline. CAN members will receive discounted prices on these materials as
described below.
HIPAAPassporttm
Policy and Forms Manual for Privacy Standards (CT Edition) contains the
policies and forms from the privacy projects of HIPAAPassporttm,
customized for Connecticut providers. These materials incorporate, for
example, Connecticut legal requirements concerning mental health and
HIV-related information. The HIPAAPassporttm
Policy and Forms Manual is offered on one CD-rom, using MS Office software
applications. The regular price for the HIPAAPassporttm
Policy and Forms Manual is $300. CAN members may purchase the CD for $250.
HIPAAPassporttm
is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary HIPAA implementation program comprised
of three phases to implement all major components of HIPAA (EDI standards,
privacy and security.) Originally developed specifically for home care,
hospice and long- term care, the program is being used by a wide variety of
providers to guide their HIPAA implementation. The program groups the HIPAA
requirements into manageable projects; each project is organized around a
project guide that lays out the necessary tasks, checklists, discussion of
issues, all necessary model policies, procedures and forms, organizational
tools, and educational materials. The program is provided on three CD-roms,
using MS Office software applications. The materials are designed to be
used as is, or customized to suit the specific needs of your organization.
The first CD guides the
organization through initiating its HIPAA implementation efforts, conducting
an operational assessment to identify privacy and security issues and
addressing the EDI standards. The second CD leads the organization through
10 privacy projects that cover all aspects of implementing the Privacy Rule
and includes 18 ready-to-use slide presentations for workforce training.
The third CD, which will be released after the Security Rule has been
finalized, will guide organizations through HIPAA security compliance.
The regular price for
HIPAAPassporttm is
$700 per CD or $1,800 for the three-CD set. CAN members may purchase the
CDs for $600 per CD or $1,530 for the three-CD set. Please note that these
materials are being sold nationally, and have been approved by two national
health care associations, but the materials do not specifically address
requirements of Connecticut law. CAN members who purchase the HIPAAPassporttm
three-CD set (see below) will be provided with the HIPAAPassporttm
Policy and Forms Manual without charge.
To order these resources,
call Laura Gramenelles of Simione Consultants LLC at 1-800-653-4043 and be

materials contained on the HIPAAPassporttm
CDs, see the HIPAAPassport website at www.hipaapassport.com. Updates and
advisories to our materials will be posted on the HIPAAPassport website
through December, 2003.
